Event and crew

An F4U-7 Corsair in the colors of the Flottille 14F of French naval aviation is displayed at the Aéronavale centenary airshow in 2010. A commentator for the show accompanies the flight over the loudspeakers. Before the Corsair, the commentator recalls that, after the war, France obtained the manufacturing license for the Storch as war reparations, and that Morane-Saulnier, in Tarbes, built it under the name Criquet.

What is shown

The Corsair lowers its gear during a pull-up at about 3 g. It then reduces power, lets the aircraft lose energy, and deploys the flaps. It makes a slow pass in approach configuration, with gear and arrestor hook deployed, and finishes with a go-around, as in a carrier approach. At the end, the crew of a Grumman Avenger prepare to start it up.

The aircraft on display

The commentator highlights the Corsair's role in the history of French naval aviation and how difficult it is to fly. In a go-around, if power is applied too abruptly, the propeller's inertia causes the aircraft to rotate around the engine instead. That is why the maneuver is done very smoothly and with a lot of rudder pedal.
