The Corsair makes passes and manoeuvres over the airfield while the commentary covers the type's history. It then lands, and afterwards a group of American trainers takes off.

The aircraft on display

According to the commentary, the US Navy initially considered the Corsair unsuitable for carrier operations, so it began operating from land bases. It was the British Fleet Air Arm that first put it into carrier service. Marine Corps Corsairs supported the Pacific campaign, flying many missions in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Fleet Air Arm Corsairs flew in the Pacific from the carriers Formidable and Victorious to attack targets near Tokyo.

Vought designed the aircraft and was its main manufacturer, but it was also built in small numbers by Brewster, and by Goodyear. The aircraft on display is an FG-1D built by Goodyear in Akron, Ohio. It entered service with the US Navy in April 1945 and was retired in March 1956.
