A museum member shows the static restoration of an FG-1D Corsair built by Goodyear in Akron, Ohio. The project began with the cockpit section, the engine, the propeller and the tailwheel, and the rest is being hand-built.

The tour shows the wing's main spar. The original was an aluminium I-beam; since the aircraft will never fly again, it has been remade with two steel beams joined in a box, keeping the original dimensions. Also shown are the rear section, hand-built from behind the cockpit to the tail, and the control surfaces, which will be fabric-covered. The fuselage carries the name Velda, a "Rosie the Riveter" who worked at Goodyear when the aircraft was built and who riveted on it shortly before she died. The museum is looking for a main landing gear.

The aircraft served at the end of World War II. During a training exercise it suffered a hard landing on a carrier off Virginia that twisted its fuselage, and the Navy handed it over to Goodyear, which cut off the wings to display it in its museum.
