Editorial policy

Above Ten Thousand publishes under its own name and, as an organisation, takes responsibility for everything that appears on the site. There are no individual bylines: every entry, every summary and every translation goes through the same verification system, and it is that system — not any one person's reputation — that stands behind the content.

This page describes that system in detail so that any reader knows what to expect from a fact published here, where it comes from and what happens when it turns out to be wrong.

No data without a source

Every piece of data in an entry — the date of a first flight, the wingspan, the powerplant, production figures, the name of a variant — is recorded together with the reference that supports it. The source is not a decorative footnote: it is a requirement for the data to exist in the archive.

Sources that can be shown publicly are listed on the entry itself. When a source is used only as internal working material, it is not cited, but the data still has its reference on record.

The accuracy filters

A piece of data passes through several gates before it is published. None is optional and none is skipped for the sake of speed:

• A source for every fact. Without a reference, the field stays empty and is shown empty. A gap is never filled because a figure “sounds right” or appears repeated in many places.
• A barrier against invention. Data the source does not provide is never inferred — not by approximation, not by analogy with a similar model, not by calculation from other data. A blank field is preferable to a plausible one.
• Domain validations. Before entering the archive, every value passes automated consistency checks: units, credible ranges, ordered dates, well-formed designations. Whatever fails them is rejected; it is not adjusted by eye to make it pass.
• Publication validations. An entry is not published without at least one source and a reviewed text. These checks block publication; they are not mere warnings.
• Conflicts between sources. When two reliable references disagree, the existing data is never silently overwritten. The discrepancy is recorded and left pending review, and until it is resolved the entry keeps what was already documented.
• Human review of images and videos. All visual material goes through an individual editorial approval that checks the licence, the attribution and the match with the entity. Nothing visual is published automatically, and an unverified licence is an image that does not get published.
• Visible review date. Every entry shows, in each language, when its content was last reviewed. That date is genuine: it is never updated to appear more current than it is.

The news

The site tracks media outlets, organisations and channels in the sector on a daily basis, and from each third-party piece it records only the headline, a brief excerpt and the link to the original publication. It does not store or reproduce the body of the articles: anyone who wants to read the full story goes to the outlet that wrote it.

Sources are selected for their relevance to aviation and space and are reviewed periodically. If an outlet comes to reserve its right to aggregation, it is no longer collected automatically. Paywalls and technical access restrictions are never circumvented.

Each news item is classified by topic and, where the headline allows it, linked to the aircraft, manufacturer or launcher in the encyclopaedia that it refers to. Our own summaries and comments are original writing, do not reproduce phrases from the original and are identified as such.

Videos are never added automatically: each one is reviewed before publication.

Translations

The site is published in six languages. Entries are written and reviewed language by language, and each version carries its own review date. When a language does not yet have its translation, another available one is shown instead of hiding the entry.

In the news section, the translated headline always indicates the original language of the piece.

Independence and advertising

If the site carries advertising, it is identified as such and plays no part in selecting sources, writing content or the order in which news is shown. There is no sponsored content or paid links within the editorial content.

No manufacturer, operator or media outlet takes part in preparing entries or reviews what is published about it.

Corrections

If you find an error, write to us through the contact page. The most useful submission is a correction accompanied by the source that supports it.

Every report is checked against the source before anything is changed. If the error is confirmed, the entry is corrected in every affected language and its review date is updated. If the source provided disagrees with the one already on record and it cannot be determined which is correct, the discrepancy is noted as a pending conflict, just like any other.

Errors of headline or classification in the news are corrected the same way; the content of the original article belongs to the outlet that published it, and only it can correct it.
