Flying the LAST ONE of its kind: the LISUNOV Li-2
Video from the channel Forgot My Passport about Douglas DC-3, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 10:13. Language: English. Video type: Onboard.
What the flight covers
An English-language account of a scenic flight on the Lisunov Li-2, presented as the only one still airworthy. It departs from Budaörs airfield, near Budapest, during an open day held by the Goldtimer Foundation. The flight follows the Danube, passes over Budapest and returns to the airfield.
Details shown
On the ground there are other well-preserved historic aircraft, such as a Polikarpov Po-2 and a Gerle biplane, alongside static pieces from the Soviet era. At the old Budaörs terminal building the reservation is exchanged for the ticket. The Li-2, built around 1949, wears the classic Malév livery and has the passenger door on the right rather than the left. The cabin, painted mint green, has seven rows of three seats, in a one-plus-two layout, for 21 passengers. The seats come from a Malév Tu-154. A folding tray table, an airsickness bag bearing the Lufthansa logo and the cockpit are also shown.
Context
The Li-2 is a DC-3 built under licence in the Soviet Union, with modifications for its operating environment, including Soviet-made Shvetsov engines. The Goldtimer Foundation is responsible for preserving it and takes it up again for another scenic flight a few minutes later.
