What the walkaround covers

A walk-around tour of a Douglas DC-3 parked at the 2014 Oshkosh air show, with commentary from the channel's host as he walks the aircraft from nose to tail. The example wears the "Flabob Express" livery.

Details shown

Close-up views of the Pratt & Whitney twin-row radial engines, the oil cooler and the oil stains on the ground beneath the engines, a common sight on these aircraft. Also the landing gear, the thick leading edge and the large wing area designed to carry weight, the square windows of an unpressurized aircraft, and the fuel filler point on the wing. The rows of protruding-head rivets appear, now replaced by flush rivets, along with the static dischargers and the horizontal stabilizer, half of which is the elevator, with its trim tab and the locks that keep the controls from moving on the ground. The walkaround ends with the pitot tubes and the cockpit.

Context

Douglas is now part of Boeing. The DC-3 was a highly versatile cargo aircraft and still flies in Alaska.
