Video from the channel Robert's Aviation Videos about Douglas DC-3, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 18:49. Video type: Onboard.
What it covers
About thirty-minute tourist flight on the Lisunov Li-2 of the Goldtimer Foundation, filmed from the passenger cabin on the season's closing day. Before starting the engines, the flight attendant explains the ventilation above the windows and the airsickness bags. She also announces the route: left turn towards Budapest, climb along the Buda side to the bend in the Danube and return south of Buda to cross the airfield and land in the same direction as takeoff.
Details shown
During the climb it is explained that three people work in the cockpit: two pilots and a flight engineer, essential on this aircraft. The flight is made at about 600-700 m altitude and about 220 km/h. At the end, the aircraft taxis to the main building.
Context
According to the crew, it is the only airworthy example of the type in the world, although others are on display. This year it turns 77. Its full restoration took about five years and some 45,000 hours of work and finished 25 years ago. Since then it has flown again at airshows and tourist flights, usually thirty minutes long. This day marks the end of the season: the aircraft spends the winter in the hangar and flies again in spring. A helicopter-escorted flight from two years ago is also recalled, which produced photos for the foundation's calendar.
