They restored this aircraft from a museum! | Onboard the ONLY REMAINING Lisunov Li-2...
Video from the channel Walking to Airports about Douglas DC-3, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 13:12. Language: English. Video type: Onboard.
What it covers
The video follows an about thirty-minute tourist flight on the Lisunov Li-2 registered HA-LIX, the version of the DC-3 built under license in the Soviet Union. It departs from Budaörs airfield, west of Budapest. It shows check-in, the aircraft's arrival after finishing a previous flight, boarding, takeoff from grass runway 27, the leg north alongside Budapest, the turn south and the landing.
Details shown
The passenger cabin has a two-plus-one layout and about 19 seats. The seats are of a modern type, with a folding table, seatbelt and armrest, and there are air vents. The aircraft carries the old Malév livery. During the flight, passengers visit the cockpit one at a time; it has some modern avionics components. The visits are suspended when turbulence increases.
Context
Budaörs was Budapest's international airport in the 1930s and 1940s. It was a stopover for flights to Greece, Turkey and the Middle East until the current airport opened in 1950, and today it only receives general aviation. There the Goldtimer Foundation maintains several classic aircraft. The HA-LIX was built in 1949 in Tashkent and served mainly in the Hungarian army, as well as a few years with Malév. In the seventies it went to a museum. The foundation restored it in the late nineties and it flew again in 2001. It is the only Li-2 still airworthy. It attends airshows throughout Europe and makes tourist flights on summer open days.
