A Varig DC-3 — the airline founded in 1927 as Viação Aérea Rio-Grandense — has been restored and is on display in the courtyard of the Boulevard Laçador shopping centre in Porto Alegre, next to Salgado Filho international airport. It retains original parts, while others such as curtains, seats and luggage racks have been restored to recreate the period; the flight attendants wear original uniforms.

The DC-3 began flying commercially in Brazil at the end of the Second World War and was Varig's main aircraft until the early 1970s. Able to operate from short, unpaved runways, it carried mail, newspapers and medicines to towns in the interior. A former flight attendant recalls the airline's closure.

The exhibition is permanent, though guided tours were offered until 28 August, on weekend afternoons.
