Video from the channel Aviación Colombia 1:400 about Douglas DC-3, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 5:39. Language: Spanish. Video type: Onboard.

What the flight covers

A passenger flight aboard a Douglas DC-3 in Colombia in 2021, on the route from Puerto Inírida to Villavicencio with a stopover in Barrancominas. The authors explain how they got a seat: the company had no website, the ticket was bought at its offices, on a paper receipt, for about 80 dollars per person, and flights normally departed on Wednesdays and Fridays, with variable schedules.

What can be seen

Boarding takes place through the rear door with the co-pilot's help; luggage goes in the cargo area and passengers sit on seats arranged along the fuselage. The landscape can be seen from the window, as can the cockpit in flight, with the side window open. The stopover in Barrancominas lasts about 40 minutes before continuing on to Villavicencio.

Context

The DC-3 remains a vital means of transport for many areas of Colombia, although insurers are wary of it because of its age and the lack of spare parts, and the aviation authority is stricter about its operation. A week before the trip, an Aliansa DC-3 had crashed in the same region, killing its three occupants.
