Video from the channel Discovery about Falcon 9, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 2:27. Language: English. Video type: Documentary.

A TV segment about Falcon 9 reusability. It shows the building where SpaceX processes first stages that have landed on its pads or on the ocean droneships; getting them ready to fly again takes a few weeks.

The interviewees explain that reuse saves costs and time, allows more frequent access to space, and aims toward relaunching without refurbishment, like an airplane. Recovering the stage also allows engineers to examine its margins and improve the design, and insurance premiums drop for rockets that have already flown. The goal is a fully reusable orbital system, as a step toward Mars.

The clip ends by announcing the in-flight abort test that SpaceX had to pass before carrying NASA astronauts.
