FALCON 9 ROCKET LAUNCH - Starlink Group 10-58
Video from the channel Space Orbit about Falcon 9, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 41:31. Language: Portuguese. Video type: Livestream.
What's being broadcast
Portuguese-language live stream from the Brazilian channel Space Orbit, following the launch of a Falcon 9 on the Starlink Group 10-58 mission from Florida. The host broadcasts from near the launch area, a day after covering the SLS liftoff with the Orion capsule, and during the wait alternates between SpaceX's countdown and NASA's feed on that crewed mission, which takes four astronauts past the Moon. He also spends a long stretch explaining the previous day's stream dropout, which he attributes to extreme saturation of mobile and Starlink networks in the area.
Key moments
The Falcon 9 lifts off with 29 Starlink satellites bound for low Earth orbit; backlighting from the sun prevents it from being seen from the host's location. 45 seconds into the flight the rocket is going nearly 1,000 km/h at 5 km altitude, and shortly after it passes Max Q. After the nine Merlin engines shut down, stage separation follows; the first stage performs the reentry burn with three engines and the landing burn until it touches down on the droneship at sea, while the second stage keeps accelerating toward 27,000 km/h.
Meanwhile, NASA's feed shows Orion in a highly elliptical, high Earth orbit. The spacecraft checks its emergency communications with the Deep Space Network and performs a perigee-raise burn to somewhat circularize the orbit, at about 43,000 miles (around 70,000 km) from Earth, before trans-lunar injection. A fault in a valve of the spacecraft's toilet is also mentioned, along with the lunar flyby being scheduled for day 6.
Outcome
The first stage lands successfully on the droneship and the second stage shuts down its engine as planned; satellite deployment is left for about 52 minutes later, outside the broadcast. Orion's burn completes successfully, and the crew, after checks, returns to its rest period.
