Messerschmitt Bf 109 Bf 109 C

Production of the short-lived Bf 109 C began in the spring of 1938. It was powered by the 515 kW (690 hp) Junkers Jumo 210G engine with direct fuel injection. The other important change was a strengthened wing, now able to carry two more machine guns. The C-0 was the pre-production series, the C-1 the production version, and the C-2 an experimental variant with an additional engine-mounted machine gun. The C-3 was planned with two 20 mm MG FF cannons replacing the wing MG 17s, although it is not known how many (if any) were built or converted; the C-4, with an additional engine-mounted MG FF gun, was never produced. A total of 58 Bf 109 Cs of all versions were built by Messerschmitt.
