George Russell and Ted Kravitz fly Eurofighter Typhoons! 😲
Video from the channel Sky Sports F1 about Eurofighter Typhoon, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 7:10. Language: English. Video type: Onboard.
What is covered
The video follows the visit of Formula 1 commentator Ted Kravitz and driver George Russell to the RAF base at Coningsby and to 29 Squadron, the largest squadron in the Typhoon fleet. The visit ends with both flying as passengers in two Eurofighter Typhoons. Russell flies with Flight Lieutenant Matt Brighty, the RAF's Typhoon display pilot, and Kravitz with the station commander, Group Captain Billy Cooper, on a paired training sortie.
Details shown
Before the flight, the video shows the anti-g equipment test, with trousers and a vest that inflate to control blood flow, and the briefing covering emergency procedures and the ejection command. Once airborne, Russell takes the controls and performs a loop. The pair air-to-air refuel from an Airbus A330 Voyager based at Brize Norton and practise air combat manoeuvres. They then cross the coast at Scarborough, fly low over the North York Moors and return to Coningsby.
Background
At the base, officers explain that the squadron usually keeps seven or eight aircraft ready and that a Typhoon can be airborne within minutes to defend British airspace. The two presenters compare the sensations of the flight with those of a Formula 1 single-seater.
