A single conversion of the second prototype, fitted with the nose of an F-104 Starfighter, proposed as an electronic systems trainer for future CF-104 pilots. No production followed.

History
Alongside the armed export version, Canadair tried a second experimental derivative, designated CL-41R. The idea was to graft the nose of a Lockheed F-104 Starfighter onto the Tutor airframe in order to offer an electronic systems trainer to future CF-104 pilots of the Canadian air force: the student would become familiar with CF-104 and F-104G radar and avionics without using up hours on the fighter itself.
A single airframe was built to demonstrate the concept, obtained by converting the second prototype of the programme, registered CF-LTX-X. The R model did not attract any orders and never went into production, so the converted aircraft remained a one-off within the CL-41 family.
As of August 2019 the airframe was awaiting restoration at the Reynolds-Alberta Museum.
