Video from the channel Luftfahrt Am Tag about Avro Vulcan, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 3:27. Language: German. Video type: Documentary.

Short piece about the Avro Vulcan, the British bomber conceived in the early years of the Cold War as an instrument of nuclear deterrence. It was designed to penetrate enemy territory at high altitude and speed.

It covers its large delta wing without a traditional tail, advantageous at altitude but demanding at low speed, and its four Olympus engines, known for their noise. It also describes its weaponry: first free-fall nuclear bombs and later the Blue Steel missile, which allowed it to attack from a safe distance. It was part of the British V bomber fleet.

Although it was built for nuclear war, it also flew conventional missions, including in the Falklands War. Today it is considered one of the most iconic aircraft in British aviation.
