Video from the channel Discovery about Project Gemini, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 3:17. Language: English. Video type: Archive footage.
Excerpt from the NASA film on Gemini 4 devoted to the first spacewalk by an American astronaut. After liftoff, commander McDivitt opens the hatch and pilot White goes outside, where he moves around using the hand-held maneuvering gun until its gas runs out, going around the spacecraft while talking with his crewmate.
It is period footage from the mission, with the original audio of the communications. While flying over the coast of California, White describes the experience as extraordinary.
At the end, Houston control relays the flight director's order for him to come back in, a few minutes before losing signal.
