Video from the channel MIX iT about Apollo program, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 2:57. Language: English. Video type: Documentary.

Brief overview of the Apollo program up to the first Moon landing. It starts with the launch of the Saturn V from Kennedy Space Center on 16 July 1969, bound for the Moon.

It recalls that the road was not easy: in 1967 Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee, the Apollo 1 crew, died in a fire during a test in the capsule's pure-oxygen atmosphere. The redesign took over a year, up to Apollo 7, the program's first crewed flight, after which the lunar module still had to be tested.

It culminates with Apollo 11: Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins travel to the Moon and the Eagle module lands in the Sea of Tranquility before a worldwide audience. Five successful lunar missions followed.
