AirVenture 2017 - Apollo Space Program

Video from the channel EAA about Apollo program, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 2:47. Language: English. Video type: News.

EAA report on the presence of Apollo program astronauts at AirVenture 2017, in Oshkosh, half a century after NASA launched the program to put a man on the Moon.

Nine of the twelve Apollo astronauts still alive attended the show that week, already in their eighties and nineties. Among them was Walt Cunningham, lunar module pilot on Apollo 7, who explains that they now tell stories that NASA did not let them tell at the time, and that he was always too outspoken for the agency's politics.

The piece also gathers memories from attendees who followed the Moon landing on television and highlights the value of the lunar rocks brought back by the missions as a record of the solar system's history.
