This NASA Rocket Was Hit by Lightning…TWICE! (Apollo 12’s 36 Seconds of Terror)
Video from the channel V101 SPACE about Apollo 12, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 2:00. Language: English. Video type: Documentary.
Short video in English about the launch of Apollo 12, on 14 November 1969, which lifted off into storm clouds.
36 seconds after leaving the pad, lightning struck the Saturn V, and shortly after, a second strike hit it. Warning lights lit up in the cabin, and mission control feared disaster on the second mission designed to land on the Moon.
Flight controller John Aaron gave a little-known command: switch SCE to auxiliary. Flipping the switch restored the spacecraft's systems, and Apollo 12 continued on its way and reached the Moon.
