APOLLO 12 Camera Failure
Video from the channel MoonInGoogleEarth about Apollo 12, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 3:26. Language: English. Video type: Archive footage.
Original NASA footage of the first moonwalk of the AS-507 mission (Apollo 12), with audio from the crew and Houston control. It can be heard how the television camera is taken out of the lunar module and how Al Bean carries it to its position, while the astronauts comment on how easy it is to move around by hopping and look for Earth in the sky.
The footage was shot at the landing site during that moonwalk. Bean explains that, because of the Sun's position, he has to point the camera more toward the two o'clock position than planned.
Houston reports that the image is coming in too bright and asks him to move the camera or close the aperture. Bean closes it all the way and remarks that the lunar module reflects a lot of light. As the title indicates, this is the moment the camera failed.
