History

ISPA4 was used from May 2011 as a Tranche 2 aircraft for validation of the PIRATE passive infrared sensor and the inertial navigation system. Like the other airframes in the instrumented series production programme, it was diverted from the assembly line with reduced telemetry and with the gun bay given over to test avionics, in a configuration designed to be reversed. Once the campaign was complete the aircraft returned to production configuration and was handed over to the Italian Air Force in January 2014. The consulted material publishes neither its first flight date nor its serial, so both remain outstanding.
