History
ISPA2 is the Tranche 1 single-seater built by Alenia within the instrumented series production programme. It first flew on 9 July 2004 with Maurizio Cheli at the controls. Like the other ISPAs it was diverted from the assembly line with lighter telemetry instrumentation than the IPAs and with the gun bay occupied by test avionics connected to the fibre-optic bus, in a reversible configuration. Once its assigned trials were complete the aircraft was returned to operational configuration and handed over to the Italian Air Force in December 2004, barely five months after its first flight. The sources consulted do not detail which specific campaigns it covered during that period, so that point remains outstanding.
