History
Five aircraft without an owner
The five Model 305s are Belfast-built 302s modified for longer range, though with a limited maximum take-off weight because of the thinner fuselage skin and lighter landing gear. They were ordered first by Capital Airlines, which cancelled, then by Northeast Airlines, which cancelled too.
With no customer, all five ended up transformed into other variants: one was leased to El Al as the Model 306 pending delivery of its last 313 and then became a 307; two went to Air Charter Limited in September 1958 and March 1959 as Model 307 — later to British United Airways and converted into 307F freighters in the 1960s; two were bought by Transcontinental SA of Argentina as Model 308 in a 104-seat configuration, later converted into 308F freighters for British Eagle; and one was leased to Ghana Airways as the Model 309.
