History
Range and weight
The An-148-100E is the family's extended-range version: up to 4,400 km, with a maximum take-off weight of 43.7 tonnes (43,700 kg). It sits at the top of the type's spread, which runs from the -100A's 2,100 km to these 4,400.
The Russian military customer
The An-148's largest export customer was the Russian Ministry of Defence, which ordered 15 Russian-produced aircraft. The state contract, signed with VASO on 7 May 2013, scheduled deliveries between 2013 and 2017: one in 2013, four in 2014 and 2015, and three in 2016 and 2017. The thirteenth, built on 24 March 2018 with serial number 43-10 and registration RA-61733, was an An-148-100E from VASO in Voronezh. In December 2011 the Russian government had also awarded a $65 million contract for a pair of VIP-configured An-148s, delivered over the following two years and operated by the Special Air Detachment to carry senior government officials.
The range plans that never came
The English source also describes a planned «E» variant offering a special 5,100 km range — a figure at odds with the production -100E's 4,400 km, a discrepancy recorded here — which would have served as the platform for the «E1», capable of non-stop Moscow-Vladivostok services of 6,995 km carrying 44 passengers. For Siberian operators, Antonov also planned a model with higher gross weight and additional centre-tank fuel, taking the range with 75 passengers from 2,198 to 3,598 km.
