An educational animation from the Science Museum explaining, phase by phase, how Apollo 11 reached the Moon and returned to Earth.

After separating from the S-IVB stage, the command and service module turned 180 degrees, docked with the lunar module, and set off on a journey of about 400,000 km. Nearly three days later it entered lunar orbit; Armstrong and Aldrin moved into the Eagle while Collins remained in the Columbia.

The Eagle touched down after 102 hours and 45 minutes of travel, and Armstrong stepped onto the Moon 109 hours and 42 minutes after launch. After less than a day on the surface, the Eagle rejoined the Columbia, and the command module splashed down in the Pacific on July 24, 195 hours, 18 minutes, and 35 seconds after departure.
