The Type 1154 was the combi version of the Super VC10 for East African Airways, with a large cargo door and strengthened floor. Five were built between 1966 and 1970 and with the last, delivered in February 1970, the assembly line closed: 54 airframes in all.
An eventful end
One of the five was destroyed in a take-off accident at Addis Ababa in 1972. The remaining four were retired in 1977, returned to BAC and were eventually bought by the RAF, which turned them into VC10 K.3 tankers, the three-point version with main-deck tanks.
