Video from the channel MiGFlug about MiG-29, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 6:40. Language: English. Video type: Onboard.

What it covers

The video follows a MiGFlug client, Josh Cartu, during a flight to the stratosphere in a MiG-29. It covers the visit to the manufacturing plant, the medical check-up, the high-altitude suit and the briefing with the pilot, Sergey. It then shows the full flight, recorded with several cockpit cameras.

Details shown

The pilot explains the flight profile: climb to 12,000 m, afterburner acceleration up to Mach 1.7 and ascent above 17,000 m, where the Earth's curvature and the dark sky can be seen. The descent and aerobatics from 10,000 m follow. On the ground he points out the speed indicator in km/h, which will read around 1,050 against a true airspeed of 1,850. In flight, the clearance to climb to 12,000 m, the transition to supersonic regime and passing 15 km are heard. A tail slide with 70° attitude and zero speed is also shown. The pilot puts the flight's maximum load at almost 8 g.

Context

The flight is a commercial activity open to the public. It departs from a plant that, according to the video, has produced almost every MiG model since the 1930s.
