Video from the channel Altitude Addicts about Lockheed C-130 Hercules, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 3:26. Language: English. Video type: Documentary.

Short piece on the reasons for the success of the Lockheed C-130 Hercules, a four-engine turboprop that the video considers the most important transport aircraft in aviation history for its versatility and its presence worldwide.

23 August 2024 marked 70 years since its first flight. When it flew, the United States Air Force was still using piston-engine transports like the C-97 Stratofreighter and the C-119 Flying Boxcar. By the early 1980s it was already the sole tactical transport of the United States.

Its versions include the AC-130 gunship, the KC-130 tanker, the ski-equipped LC-130 for polar operations and the WC-130 weather reconnaissance aircraft, as well as the civilian L-100 model. It serves in the United States Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, and is still being sold despite competition from the Airbus A400M and the Embraer C-390.
