History

The Il-18I marked the family's step up in power: the AI-20K engines gave way to AI-20M units of 3,169 kW (4,250 shp) and fuel capacity increased. The most visible change was internal: moving the aft pressure bulkhead 1.64 m rearwards lengthened the cabin and raised capacity to 122 passengers in summer layout, or 110 in winter, when more wardrobe space was needed.

The two final large-production civil versions derived from it: the Il-18D, which added an extra centre-section fuel tank, and the Il-18E, identical but without the increased fuel capacity.
