The Fokker V.7 was fitted with the experimental twin-rotor («double-acting») Siemens-Halske Sh.III engine, an 11-cylinder rotary of 205 hp (153 kW), far more powerful than the conventional rotaries used in the rest of the V.4-V.7 family. It showed an exceptional climb rate and ceiling, but handling was difficult enough to prevent it from entering production; it was one of the engine testbeds of Fokker's 1917 triplane prototype family, none of which — except the V.5 — reached series production.
