BAe Jetstream Jetstream 200

Once it was clear that the original Astazou could not carry the design, Handley Page launched the Jetstream 2 with the nine-hundred-and-sixty-five-horsepower version of the same engine, deliveries starting late in 1969. It was the right answer, but it arrived with the company already doomed: only three were completed before the shutters came down.

Scottish Aviation, which had built the aircraft's wings at Prestwick from the outset, continued the version as the Jetstream 200. With sixteen seats, a maximum take-off weight of five thousand seven hundred kilograms and a range of 2,220 kilometres, it was a far better balanced machine than the first Jetstream, and it opened the door to the type's largest military contract: the aircraft ordered by the Royal Air Force in 1972.
