In 1990 British Aerospace offered two short derivatives of the 146-100, the RJ70 and an eighty-seat RJ80; only the first went ahead, as the Avro 146-RJ70, with FADEC-controlled LF 507 engines, a Spaceliner cabin and a glass flight deck. Deliveries began in late 1993, the last of the RJ family to reach the market. The cabin takes seventy passengers five abreast, 82 six abreast and up to 94 in a high-density layout, but commercial interest was thin and only twelve were sold. In October 1998 the same version underpinned the Avro Business Jet, a corporate model that never reached series production.
