Launch of Mercury Atlas 7 Aurora 7
Video from the channel iSpaceChronicles about Mercury-Atlas 7, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 3:50. Language: English. Video type: Launch.
The video shows the launch of the MA-7 mission, in which Scott Carpenter flew the Aurora 7 capsule atop an Atlas rocket, with the audio of the communications from the first few minutes.
After the countdown, Carpenter notices the liftoff and the clock starting. He describes some vibration, a clear blue sky and a somewhat rough passage through maximum dynamic pressure around the first minute. He reports that cabin pressure, electrical consumption, fuel and oxygen are all within expected limits. At 1 min 30 s the sky turns black. He confirms stage separation, with a peak of 6.3 g, and the jettison of the escape tower.
At three minutes everything remains stable and the pilot reports that he is in good condition.
