Launch of Aurora 7 - May 24 1962 | Scott Carpenter Becomes Second American to Orbit Earth
Video from the channel Manned Space about Mercury-Atlas 7, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 3:04. Language: English. Video type: Launch.
The video shows the liftoff of the MA-7 mission, in which Scott Carpenter flew the Aurora 7 capsule atop an Atlas rocket. The launch footage is accompanied by the audio of the first three minutes of flight.
After the countdown, Carpenter notices liftoff and the start of the clock. He describes a clear blue sky and a somewhat rough passage through maximum dynamic pressure toward the first minute. He reports cabin pressure, which drops and stabilizes, electrical consumption, and that fuel and oxygen remain stable. At 1 min 30 s he sees the sky darken; the escape tower is then jettisoned.
At three minutes, fuel and oxygen remain stable, the cabin holds pressure, and the pilot reports that his condition is good.
