Event and lineup

Review of the Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show 2025, held at the Imperial War Museum Duxford and dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, with a strong presence of Spitfires and Hurricanes. The author attended on the Saturday: it was sunny, but a strong crosswind forced the cancellation of several participants, which remained on static display, such as the Airco DH9, the Westland Lysander and the Grumman FM-2 Wildcat.

What you see

The video first tours the hangars and the flight line (Stearman, Beaver, Gazelle, Gladiator, Nimrod, Staggerwing) and then the display: a simulated dogfight between three Spitfire Mk Is and a Hispano Buchón dressed as a Bf 109, the Chipmunk and Magister pair, the CA-13 Boomerang replica, the P-40F and the Hawk 75, the Blenheim, the B-17G Sally B, the Fury and the P-47D, the Belgian NH90 NFH, three Mustangs, the Canso and the Swordfish, the Sabre and the Vampire, the Flying Comrades' Yaks and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Lancaster. The finale was the Big Wing: 22 aircraft, 15 Spitfires and 7 Hurricanes, with the Buchón flying solo as they formed up.

The aircraft on display

The highlight was the formation of eight Hawker Hurricanes, the largest gathering of the type since the Second World War, surpassing the previous record of seven set at the 2019 Shuttleworth Military Air Show. The A-26C Invader that opened the day, built in 1945, logged around 1,900 combat hours in Korea and nearly 2,000 as a firefighting aircraft. The Blenheim Mk IF is the only airworthy example, and the B-17G marked 50 years in the United Kingdom and 80 since its first flight. The Belgian NH90 was making its debut at British air shows; it belongs to the 40th Squadron and is based at Koksijde.
