Event and team

Display of the B-17G Flying Fortress "Sally B" at the 2025 Duxford Battle of Britain Air Show. The event commentary can be heard, partly broken up by engine noise.

What's shown

The four-engined bomber makes several passes over Duxford airfield. On the last one it releases smoke to simulate damaged engines, an image associated with Second World War bombing missions, and the crowd applauds at the end.

The aircraft on display

The commentator presents the aircraft as a flying memorial to American airmen, especially those who operated in the European theatre from East Anglia between 1942 and the end of the war in Europe in 1945, flying B-17s and B-24s. He recalls that thousands of aircraft flew from British bases. He also mentions the B-17F "Memphis Belle", the first to be credited with a complete tour of 25 combat missions, with the crew of Captain Robert Morgan.
