Douglas DC-2 C-39

The C-39, factory designation DC-2-243, is a composite: C-33 fuselage and wings with the DC-3's tail, centre section and landing gear, and two 975 hp (727 kW) Wright R-1820-45 engines. It seats 16 and 35 were built.

It was the Army Air Corps's standard transport before the United States entered the war, and the bridge between the two Douglas generations: by the time the C-47s arrived, American military air transport doctrine had already been written on C-39s. Two of them were converted in 1943 into C-42 VIP transports by bolting their cargo doors shut.
