Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress PB-1G

At the end of the war the US Coast Guard asked the Army to loan it surplus B-17 bombers to strengthen its long-range maritime search-and-rescue capability. The aircraft, designated PB-1G, were fitted with the parachute-deployed A-1 lifeboat slung under the fuselage and with ASV radar; they were also used on the International Ice Patrol, and one was modified to carry a nine-lens aerial mapping camera. They served with the Coast Guard from 1945 to 1959; the last PB-1G's final flight landed on 14 October 1959.
