The Jumbo's final and largest evolution: a stretched fuselage, a new wing and the 787's engines, in passenger (Intercontinental) and freighter versions.
The 747-8 first flew on 8 February 2010 in its freighter version, and the Intercontinental passenger variant flew in 2011. It borrowed the 787's engines and technologies on a stretched fuselage that made it the world's longest airliner at the time.
It arrived in a market already moving away from four-engine jets: most of the 155 aircraft built were freighters, and with the last of them, delivered in 2023, production of the whole 747 family came to an end.
