Why the Airbus A380 Failed: The Full Untold Story
Video from the channel DP Aviation about Airbus A380, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 3:40. Language: English. Video type: Documentary.
The video explains why the Airbus A380, the largest passenger aircraft ever built, did not achieve the commercial success expected. In the 1990s Airbus wanted to challenge Boeing 747's dominance with a twin-deck aircraft capable of replacing two flights with one.
The A380 first flew in 2005 and was operated by, among others, Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Qantas. Airlines later came to prefer direct city-to-city flights with more efficient twin-engine aircraft, such as the Boeing 787 and the Airbus A350. Rising fuel prices and the need for adapted gates and runways compounded the problem.
In 2019 Airbus announced the end of production for 2021. The video concludes that the failure was economic and a matter of timing, not technical.
