Most Pegasus XL Launches
Video from the channel DrybonesSpaceOA-3 about Pegasus XL, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 7:29. Language: English. Video type: Launch.
The mission
A compilation of several air launches of the Pegasus XL with the audio from the official broadcasts. Five missions are identified: AIM, dedicated to Earth's highest clouds, at the edge of space; IBEX, which maps the solar system's interstellar boundary; NuSTAR, aimed at understanding the ultimate fate of stars and galaxies; CYGNSS, for predicting hurricane intensity; and ICON, which explores the region where Earth meets space.
Sequence
All the clips follow the same pattern: countdown from the carrier aircraft, drop order, free fall of the Pegasus and ignition of the first stage. The controllers report on attitude, on the fin actuator system that governs atmospheric flight, and on the voltage in the power buses. In the last launch, ICON's, passage through maximum dynamic pressure, separation of the first stage, and ignition of the second stage with thrust vector control can also be heard.
Result
The compilation does not reach orbital insertion for any of the missions: each clip is cut during the early phases of powered flight.
