Gemini 4 Launch 8mm Footage

Video from the channel lunarmodule5 about Gemini IV, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 4:14. Language: English. Video type: Launch.

The video shows the launch of Gemini 4 from Complex 19 at Cape Kennedy, filmed in 8mm from the era's television broadcast. Astronauts McDivitt and White prepare for four days in orbit and for the first American spacewalk.

The commentator reviews the planned milestones: maximum dynamic pressure, the shutdown of both stages, and orbital insertion at 6 minutes and 12 seconds. Then the final countdown is heard, along with the launch vehicle's switch to internal power and liftoff, which is followed vertically with its condensation trail.

The recording ends just over a minute after liftoff, by which point the rocket has already safely passed through the phase of maximum dynamic pressure.
