Apollo 4 Pre-Launch Activities (archival film)
Video from the channel NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center about Apollo 4, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 2:57. Language: English. Video type: Archive footage.
Archival film from NASA's Marshall Center on the manufacturing and testing of the Saturn V that would fly on the Apollo 4 mission.
It was filmed before the launch, at Marshall in Huntsville, which managed the Saturn program, and at its contractors' plants: the first stage was assembled by Marshall and Boeing, the second was built at North American Rockwell's plant in Seal Beach, the third at McDonnell Douglas's plant in Huntington Beach, and IBM made the instrument unit. It shows the welding of 33-foot-diameter aluminum tanks, the test-stand firing of the five Rocketdyne F-1 engines, and the first stage's journey on the barge Poseidon to Cape Kennedy.
It ends with the 363-foot vehicle ready for launch.
