Alle NORTHROP GRUMMAN-Klassiker in 16 Minuten erklärt
Video from the channel Every Warplane Explained about Northrop Grumman, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 16:41. Language: English. Video type: Documentary.
What it's about
A narrated overview of aircraft in the Northrop Grumman lineage, from Grumman's earliest carrier-based biplanes to today's unmanned systems. It covers more than thirty models (fighters, bombers, early-warning and transport aircraft, trainers, amphibians and executive jets) and gives each a brief note on its role and legacy.
Historical context
The video follows two lineages. On the Grumman side, the 1931 FF opens a line of rugged naval aircraft (Wildcat, Hellcat, Avenger and Bearcat) that continues with the Panther and Cougar jets, the F-14 Tomcat, the E-2 Hawkeye and the A-6 Intruder. On the Northrop side, the P-61 Black Widow and Jack Northrop's XB-35 and YB-49 flying wings lead, decades later, to the B-2 Spirit and the B-21 Raider. The overview is rounded out by the T-38, the F-5 family, the YF-17 and YF-23 prototypes, and drones such as the RQ-4 Global Hawk, the X-47B and the MQ-4C Triton.
Key facts
According to the narration, naval aviators were credited with more than 5,000 kills flying the Hellcat, and Panthers flew more than 78,000 combat sorties in Korea. The Tomcat served from 1974 to 2006 and the Prowler from 1971 to 2015. The T-38, presented as the first supersonic trainer, flew in 1959, and more than 2,600 F-5s were built. 21 B-2s were built, and the YF-17 gave rise to the F/A-18 Hornet.
