Britten Norman BN2 Islander walk around
Video from the channel Pilot_Man_Bushe about Britten-Norman, linked on its Above Ten Thousand entry. Duration: 10:34. Language: English. Video type: Onboard.
What's covered
A pilot shows the pre-flight external inspection of a Britten-Norman BN2 Islander and, at the end, the engine start-up procedure. He begins in the cockpit, where he connects the battery, turns on the landing and navigation lights and lowers the flaps. He then steps out of the aircraft to check the lights, the beacon and the stall warning from outside, and turns everything off again before doing the full walk-around from the pilot's door.
Details shown
He checks the latches and safety wire on the engine cowlings, the propeller and the spinner screws, the ailerons, the pitot tube, the flaps, the brakes, the cargo door, the stabilizer, the elevator with its trim tab and the rudder. The second side is covered in fast-forward. With the dipstick he measures 180 litres of fuel and about nine quarts of oil. He takes fuel samples from the four drains, two under the wing and two on the engine, and points out the orange strip on the wing that can be walked on.
Context
For start-up he uses the battery instead of an external starter and explains that a bell sounds if the pilot's door is still open, because the propeller turns right next to the cockpit. He also mentions that a loose propeller spinner screw can come off at the pilot's neck height.
