The Rafale A technology demonstrator, rolled out at Saint-Cloud in December 1985, first flew from Istres air base on 4 July 1986 with Guy Mitaux-Maurouard at the controls. In one hour it reached 11,000 m and Mach 1.3, and the following month it was on show at the Farnborough Airshow.
