First flight
First flight of the Boeing 737-300, start of the Classic series
February 24, 1984
The 737-300 prototype, the 1,001st 737 built, first flew on 24 February 1984 with Jim McRoberts at the controls. It opened the aircraft's second generation, the Classic, with larger-diameter CFM56 engines in flattened nacelles; together with two production aircraft it flew a nine-month test campaign.
