Nearly 3,000 fighters delivered

Between 1941 and 1944 the Soviet Union received close to 3,000 Hawker Hurricanes from both British and Canadian production. Deliveries of the British fighter stopped in 1944. Of what was shipped, the Soviet military accepted 2,834 British-built examples. Production of the type ended in July 1944 with 14,487 units completed in Britain and Canada, plus others built in Belgium and Yugoslavia.

Which versions arrived

The breakdown of what was supplied to the USSR was 210 Mk IIAs — some of them Mk I conversions —, 1,557 Mk IIBs, 1,009 Mk IICs, 60 Mk IIDs and around 100 Mk IVs. The earliest batches consisted of Mk IIBs, which, together with their Canadian-built equivalents (Mk X, Mk XI and Mk XII), accounted for more than half of the Hurricanes flown by Soviet forces.

Armament of the variants sent

The Mk IIAs sent by the British were armed with eight Browning machine guns, while the Mk IICs flown by Soviet forces carried four 20 mm Hispano cannons. The Mk IIDs sent to the USSR mounted two 40 mm cannons.
