Did you know…

Where can you watch Starship?

Short answer

Starship launches from Starbase, in Boca Chica, Texas, near the border with Mexico. The most common public viewing spot is South Padre Island, about 8 km away, especially Isla Blanca Park. Boca Chica's own beaches and roads close for every launch. SpaceX livestreams every flight on its website.

Where Starbase is

SpaceX's facility occupies the southern tip of the Texas coast, at Boca Chica, about 30 km from Brownsville and in sight of the mouth of the Rio Grande. It's there that Starship prototypes and their Super Heavy boosters are built, tested, and launched. The area is now its own incorporated city, and State Highway 4, which leads to Boca Chica Beach, is closed during engine tests and launches.

Where to watch from

The classic viewpoint is South Padre Island, the barrier island north of the pad, separated from it by the Brazos Santiago channel. From Isla Blanca Park, at its southern tip, the launch tower is about 8 km away and the liftoff can be seen in full, including the booster's return to the tower. Other options include the island's beaches and the shoreline at Port Isabel, on the mainland. It's worth arriving hours ahead of time: launch windows open in the early morning or at first light, and delays are common.

Apart from launches, the vehicle can be seen daily on the pad or in the production area, right off the road, when there are no closures.

From home

SpaceX livestreams every flight on its website and on its X account, with cameras aboard both the booster and the ship. NASA doesn't cover these tests because they're private development flights, though it keeps a close eye on the program because of the Artemis lunar lander. In the future, Starship will also launch from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where SpaceX is building a second tower; at that point, viewpoints along Florida's Space Coast will join those in Texas.
